Brighton Bathing Boxes
This image was shot impromptu when I accompanied a visiting friend who wanted to see these colourful boxes on the beach. You would be surprised to know that this image was shot in the last few days of winter with terrible weather and cloudy dark skies leading up to the afternoon this image was shot when the weather suddenly cleared up by miracle and the sun began to shine like its the middle of summer. In that moment, although totally unplanned I decided to create this image.1 The Brighton bathing boxes are the only remaining structures of their kind close to the Melbourne central business district. As a functional remnant of a bygone era, they provide a cultural and historical resource that is constantly being photographed, painted or drawn.
